Preview: New Mermaid Film
I have just heard through the iO9 grapevine (and yes that rhymes) that the visionary director of Atonement, Joe Wright is set to direct a new live action grown-up tale of the classic “Little” mermaid story. I did a previous review of a Russian Mermaid film from last year but I am not sure whether this new Hans Christian Andersen telling will be modernized like that one or classically done. It’s likely that it will be darker as Anderson intended with the not-so-happy ending of the beloved mermaid taking her own life to save the selfish prince she loved so dearly in the end existing only as sea foam. Just like a man: you give up your legs, voice and world for a guy and he leaves you for another chick. I’m not bitter, I swear.
